UPDATE: Smith’s 88th minute goal puts Revs in second place

By: Sabin | September 30th, 2007

On a weekend that’s so far peppered with draws, one goal was all it took for the New England Revolution to keep pace with D.C. United and rise to second place overall in the MLS standings. Having already clinched a playoff spot, the Revs are playing for home field advantage and — dare we hope — the supporter’s shield.

With D.C. United’s current form, however, and just three games left to play, the Revs may have to settle for second place.

Last night’s goal was started by a pass to Khano Smith from Shalrie Joseph. Smith took off with the ball at his feet, dribbled through two defenders and slid the ball through Bouna Coundoul’s legs for the late-game winner.

The next game for the Revs is the U.S. Open Cup final against FC Dallas this Wednesday.
