Toronto drop another at Gillette; Noonan continues good form
By: Sabin | June 23rd, 2007Though the first 10 minutes contained some nailbiting moments for New England Revolution fans, we needn’t have worried. Pat Noonan and Andy Dorman both notched goals tonight in a Revolution routing of Toronto.
The win was a necessary one for the Revs, and moves them back to the top of the Eastern Conference with 22 points, one ahead of New York Red Bulls who have a bye week. Kansas City is in third with 20 points, though, so the Revs are only truly safe until tomorrow.
Some notes of interest:
1. Wells Thompson continues to hold the ball too long and confuse his opponents, and it’s a fantastic thing to see. Say what you will, there’s far too few displays of quality, trickster dribbling, and I’ll take it where I can get it.
2. Shalrie Joseph had a phenomenal game tonight. So much so, that in the post-game shots it looked as though Danny Dichio was asking for his autograph.
3. Adam Cristman continues to solidify his place in my mind as a quality player. It took a while for him to grow on me. I’m at the point now, though, where I’m glad his ours.
4. Jeff Larentowicz was replaced by Gary Flood after half time. Larentowicz took a hard shot to the right eye and seemed a little loupy afterwards.
The important thing: we won, and we did it handily and with a modicum of style. The Revs can continue to build on their work tonight, and I think we can expect some increasingly solid performances from them tonight.
Coming up:
Everyone knows at this point that Joey Franchino is out for the season and that Daniel Hernandez has been released. What does this mean for the Revs’ roster? There’s not a lot of information available, but head coach Steve Nicol has hinted that they’re keeping track of some players both “known and unknown”. I’ll keep on top of it as much as I can and post here.
More later, but this was a good and positive result for the Revs.

Man, what is it with us sucking against you guys? In all honesty, I don’t think the Revs played well either, but man, Toronto was just plain shit. It’s called not giving the ball away every frickin’ time you have it.

I’m there on Cristman, but not Thompson; the headless chicken thing not only confuses his opponents, but his teammates as well.
Also I’m with Sam: take away two quality finishes (Noonan’s and Dorman’s second) and the Revs didn’t show much in terms of fluidity.
Still, a good, timely win in my book.

I’ve got to stick with Thompson. He’s demonstrating a real desire to push, take part, and share his ideas. There were moments last season with Khano Smith and Clint Dempsey where it sometimes felt as though they were on a different page than the team. In time, though, it all gelled. Maybe not this season as much as everyone would like, but Thompson’s going to be a big piece of the Revs success. He’ll find his niche.

Couldn’t agree more. This was a big win for the revs- we needed to turn things around after blowing that second half lead the week before.
With Chrisman, Twellman, and Noonan all playing well I think we’ll have one of the most dangerous front lines in MLS. Is anyone playing a three man front line anymore? or do you think Chrisman will be relegated to coming in around the 70 min.?
Thompson still reminds me of John Masiner (sp? He last played for DC United I think). Wonderfully dangerous… somethimes. It would be really interesting to hear who is mentoring him on the team and what Nicol is telling him.
