Those Two Japanese Dudes

By: Jeff | February 23rd, 2007

Anyone reading the line-ups for the past couple of New England Revolution preseason warmups may have noticed a couple of unfamiliar names: Takashi Hirano and Takuya Yamata. (NOTE: It looks like I owe an apology to the drones who organize the Revs’ official site; turns out they did include a line-up in their match report…though I didn’t see it earlier.) Based on those reports (v. Bermuda Select; hit link above for LA Galaxy), it appears both players played a bigger role against Bermuda, but that still doesn’t give the curious fan much of a shot at learning more about these players.

Fortunately, Brian O’Connell, a pundit for RevsNet, dig the requisite digging on these players. While that information tops an article speculating as to whether the Revs can sign one or more Japanese players in hopes of leveraging the excitement surrounding the signing of a Japanese player by baseball’s Boston Red Sox, it’s still pretty good dish. I certainly learned a thing or two - not least how old both Hirano and Yamata are - but don’t know that either player will work out.

And I have no idea about whether signing Japanese soccer players can help the Revs’ business prospects. File
