Revs-related media from today

By: Sabin | July 19th, 2007

In lieu of a more complete post this evening, I’ve dregged up some links for you all.

Revs vs. Rhinos
The full video of the Revs vs. the Rhinos in the Lamar Hunt Open Cup game last week. The highlight reel published by the USL side was pretty one-sided, and didn’t show any of the Revs’ goals.

Shalrie Joseph on SportsNation
I grabbed the transcript from the SportsNation chat with Joseph from earlier this afternoon. And yes, that last question is yours truly.

Nicol names all-star starting 11
This is an article on the Revs’ website. Steve Nicol names his starting 11 about halfway through the thing. He’s using a 3-5-2 (natch), and Reis will be in goal, Parkhurst in the CB position, and Joseph in his usual DM position. There’s some good discussion about the all-star idea, too. Worth a read, for sure.

Don’t know if you saw the article but Sports Illustrated has Christman down as possible rookie of the year. Hopefully the second half of his season will be as strong as his first.

Any rumors going around about filling Franchino’s spot?
    I also
I should also mention that I’ve been really impressed with Dorman the last few games. Nice to seem him hitting his stride.

Anyone catch the article in Sports Illustrated. Christman was selected as possible rookie of the year. Hopefully the second half of his season will be as strong as his first.

Any rumors about filling Franchino’s position yet?

Hey Sabin, what is your opinion about the Revs in the Open Cup? There are only two MLS teams (Dallas & Colorado), and because of the way the bracket is set up, they won’t be able to play the Revs until the final. The only non-MLS team to win, since the MLS was created, were the Rochester Raging Rhinos, who the Revs beat. So what are you thinking?

I think Cristman’s got a good shot at Rookie of the year, though a lot of the rookies are looking good. As far as developing, Cristman’s come the farthest. Remember when he would fall over at the slightest, feather-weight shove? Even if not ROTY, he’s vastly improved to the point where I can root for him.

Good point, AJ. The Revs surprised me with the line-up in Rochester. To be honest, I figured they would treat it as a glorified reserve game. So from that perspective, I have great hope for them moving to the final bracket. On the other hand, they dropped a 2-0 lead and had to come back in the last minute to win the game. We have a lack of tenacity when it looks like we’re winning, but get gritty if we’re losing. I’m not sure tactics like that will work on FCD or the Rapids, and if Harrisburg lives up to what they might perceive as their destiny, we’ve got a battle on our hands. We can probably beat FCD or Colorado, though. It’s the USL teams that worry me this year. I feel like they’ve got something to prove. That said, I’m sure we’ll make it to the Semis. We’ll probably play Carolina (they’re on fire so far this year, and have either beaten or matched Rochester in season play). We’ll make it to the finals, and I’m predicting we’ll play Colorado or Charleston.

backseat: I’m doing some research on our two open slots, so check this space for a write-up in the next day or so. At first glance, though, the rumor-mill’s quiet and Fowler seems to be a solid “No”, though he’s stopped talks with Sydney (the other team with which he was linked).
