Revs Acquire Nico Colaluca in Trade
By: Trevor | May 7th, 2009
The Revs have acquired Generation Adidas midfielder Nico Colaluca from Colorado Rapids in exchange for GA defender Rob Valentino. Valentino failed to crack the first team in MLS, but made 3 starts in the US Open Cup, and had a substitute appearance versus Joe Public in the CONCACAF Champions League. Colaluca, who is 22, was drafted sixth overall in the 2007 MLS Superdraft by Colorado. He is a Rhode Island native, and admitted that he was hoping to be drafted by New England prior to the 2007 draft. Colaluca has earned caps for various youth national teams, including the US U-20 side.
My Thoughts:
This looks like a solid trade for New England, we didn’t have to give much up, but we gained a young local player who really wants to play for the side. This will help balance out the squad and give some more competition in the midfield for Wells Thompson.
