COMMENTARY: Wells Thompson, ’nuff said
By: Sabin | November 3rd, 2007It’s halftime at Gillette Stadium, and Wells Thompson’s redneck self is being a thorn in the side of New York. Miraculous saves, a shot from the top of the box, beautiful passes, and blinding speed he’s showing himself to be the player we — here at our house — thought he could be.
I’m too excited to type much more, but suffice it to say that this game is a great one to watch. My breath is short, heart is beating at the base of my throat, and New England are looking fantastic in the rain against our I-95 rivals.
More later …

Not sure I agree about Thompson being key to victory… he still isn’t crossing much. He’s tenacious defense is certainly a bonus.
I thought the game came down to controlling the midfield (shalri and jeff) and avery john’s performance.
and let’s not foget about good ‘ol reis. he came up huge to put forth another shutout.
smith was a trainwreck last night. can’t believe he didn’t get a red card for that football/wwf tackle.

Great win for the revs last night. Twellman has certainly established himself as the best forward in MLS – the guy scores consistently, week-in week-out.
Blanco was completely neutralized last night. Shalrie did a great job and the ref really let things go all game. Nice to have someone consistently blowing the whistle for once. Chicago really seemed distracted taking a Blanco-like mentality of trying to harass the ref all game. Pathetic.
Thompson played the best game of his season by far. He only managed to dribble out of bounds twice and into traffice 2 or 3 times. Nice to seem him putting the ball into the center for Twellmen and Noonan. He defense last night was AWESOME and he was HUGE on the transitions. Sorry Christman, but we may have a new candidate for rooky of the year.
Reis was rock solid once again. I hope he gets serious consideration for the national team. CHicago had a couple of good looks last night and he was all over it.
I also thought both teams looked tired by 70 min. I don’t know if it was the weather or the short rest (4-5 days instead of a week) but the game really opened up which played to our strengths. Blanco couldn’t keep up with the transitions and was cherry picking by the end of the game.
Still curious about Dorman. He played pretty well all season and he saw no action last night. I expected him to come in instead of Christman to protect the lead. Is he hurt?
Also nice to see Ralston’s ball service back under control. He couldn’t hit a corner kick or free kick to save his life against the Red Bulls.
Anyone think Ralston will come back next year?
Sure would be nice to avenge the Houston loss in the finals!!! GO REVS!!!!!!
