500 is here

By: Sabin | April 3rd, 2007

I’ve been wondering what this “500 is Coming” is about for days, and now I know:

New England Revolution
Fans can log on to revolutionsoccer.net and submit their guesses as to which player will score the 500th goal, in which game it will be scored, and in which minute it will be scored. No purchase is required.

All in all, it sounds like a good deal. I’m heading over there in a few hours to place my bet. Any advice on who it should be?

It does lead me to some interesting questions, though. The contest details state that the Revs are at 496 goals since 1996. That’s an average of 49.6 goals per year, which is about 1.3 - 1.5 goals per game since the league’s inception (provided my rudimentary ability at quick-averaging hasn’t let me down). That doesn’t seem so hot to me. So the question: what do the Revs need to do in order to increase their goals-per-game?

If there’s an answer to that, it had better come this season, because I have a feeling they’re going to need it.
