Frisco-bound Revs need win
By: Sabin |Well, it seems a slow start to the 2007 season for the New England Revolution and it’s making me nervous. The Nicol’s Army Faithful — of which I am one, if not officially — will probably point out that it’s the way things are done in the MLS: slower start means a more healthy and [...]
Let’s talk elbows
By: Sabin |Here at this place — MLS News Review: Judging Andy’s Elbow — the author talks a bit about the Andy Herron elbow in last night’s Revolution-Crew game. He makes a few points that I think are pretty interesting, but there’s one thing that doesn’t get mentioned with as much conviction as it should: soccer should [...]
Revs sneak out of Columbus with 1 point; Herron deserves suspension
By: Sabin |The Revs ended up blowing a 2 – 1 lead in the 83rd minute when a quick cross from Frankie Hejduk led to a game-tying goal from Kei Kamara. But that’s not what I came here to talk to you about. I’m more interested in discussing the elbow from Andy Herron in the first half [...]
What an opener; 500th goal!
By: Sabin |The New England Revolution beat Toronto FC 4 – 0 in the 2007 inaugural game at Gillette Stadium, allowing TFC very little possession of the ball in general. Goals scored were by Taylor Twellman (two of ‘em), Shalrie Joseph with a penalty kick and Andy Dorman with the Revs’ 500th goal.
It’s on!
By: Sabin |Shalrie Joseph starts in midfield, with Andy Dorman taking up the center. Khano Smith is on the left side midfield with Taylor Twellman and Adam Cristman up front.
Game just started, so I’ll have more for you at the end.
The FieldTurf looks great, actually, so we’ll see how it plays.
Let’s talk about Wells Thompson
By: Sabin |I wanted to do this right after Saturday’s game, because I was immediately impressed with the way Wells Thompson approached his role. How can I describe it? A kind of lanky, off-balance grace that was just odd enough to keep the Fire at bay long enough for him to get a pass off.
At first glance, [...]
Revs fall to Fire, 1 – 0
By: Sabin |Well, there it is. The story from this game is Wells Thompson, in my mind. More on that tomorrow, though. As far as the game goes, the Revs got caught in the 4th minute by a bouncy fluke of a goal off of a loopy pass from Mapp into the area.
Overall, the Revs need to [...]
Looking forward to tonight
By: Sabin |It’s that time, folks! In a little less than 12 hours, The New England Revolution and the Chicago Fire will kick-off each of their respective seasons. The game starts at about 20:30, ET in Bridgeview, IL. There are plenty of fine previews out there on the Intertron (LINK and LINK) to keep you entertained, including [...]
Early Injury Report
By: Sabin |Final hurdle for Revs – Soccer – BostonHerald.com
From today’s Boston Herald:
While [Pat] Noonan looks set to go Saturday, standout starting central defender Michael Parkhurst is still recovering from a freak left shoulder separation he suffered while swimming in the ocean off Cancun, Mexico, three weeks ago. But Nicol said Parkhurst does not need surgery, and [...]
COO Bilello’s Media Day Comments
By: Sabin | Revolution COO Brian Bilello addressed the media
Now, I wasn’t at the conference, so I don’t have any more information than this blockquote, but I thought I’d post it here anyhow:
And on [the soccer-specific stadium] front, it’s an issue that has been in the news from time to time, but we are still diligently [...]
